Shift                             : Rotating Shift (3x12)
 
Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist supports surgical procedures by establishing and maintaining the integrity of the sterile field, preparing and passing instrumentation, and assisting the surgical team in accordance with AORN standards. This role contributes to high-quality patient care and performs duties under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Surgical Technologist participates in unit initiatives that promote patient safety, quality outcomes, and operational efficiency.
 
Essential Job Functions

• Demonstrates expertise in sterile and aseptic technique, combining knowledge of anatomy, surgical procedures, instrumentation, tools, and technology used in invasive therapeutic and diagnostic interventions; functions with working knowledge of AORN standards.
• Inspects and verifies instrumentation, supplies, and equipment for appropriate packaging, sterilization, moisture, seal integrity, indicators, and expiration dates. Ensures a safe operating room environment and proper functioning of all equipment.
• Monitors the sterile field for any contamination events and promptly initiates or communicates the need for corrective action under supervision.
• Works toward competency or demonstrates competency in Tier 1 surgical cases as defined by departmental guidelines.
• Maintains flexibility while supporting the continuous and individualized delivery of patient care within the Surgical Technologist scope of practice.
• Participates actively in all perioperative communication processes, including Time Outs, Briefings, and Debriefings; ensures effective and timely communication with the surgical team.
• Assists with patient transport, room preparation, and room turnovers to maintain efficient surgical workflow.
• Models professionalism by keeping current with new technologies, equipment, and procedural advancements.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization in accordance with departmental standards.
• Adheres to principles of a Just Culture and maintains compliance with HIPAA and all organizational policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

 
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience:
• Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist training required.
 
Licensure:
• Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the State of Colorado (required).
 
Certifications:
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (required).
 
Computer Skills:
• Must possess or acquire within 90 days sufficient computer skills to complete online learning modules, competency documentation, electronic forms, policies, and benefits enrollment.
 
Language Skills:
• Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
