Location                            : Fort Defiance, AZ 86504
Project Duration           : 13 weeks
Shift                                    : 12-hour shift, flexible to work either Day/Night shifts, weekends and holidays, as needed.

Job Description:
Position Summary
The Psychiatric Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to individuals with acute and chronic mental health conditions. The Psych RN utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate psychiatric care while ensuring patient safety, therapeutic engagement, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role collaborates closely with psychiatrists, providers, and the interdisciplinary behavioral health team in a structured clinical environment.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments, including mental status examinations and risk evaluations.
• Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Administers psychiatric and medical medications safely and monitors patients for therapeutic response and adverse effects.
• Maintains a safe, therapeutic environment, including monitoring for self-harm risks, aggression, or behavioral escalation.
• Implements crisis intervention techniques and de-escalation strategies as needed.
• Provides patient and family education related to mental health conditions, medications, and treatment plans.
• Accurately documents patient care, assessments, and interventions in the electronic health record.
• Collaborates with psychiatrists, social workers, counselors, and other healthcare professionals to support treatment goals.
• Participates in treatment planning, interdisciplinary rounds, and discharge planning activities.
• Adheres to all federal, state, and facility policies related to behavioral health, patient rights, and confidentiality.

 
Required Qualifications
• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license (compact or Arizona-eligible)
• Minimum 1–2 years of psychiatric or behavioral health nursing experience (preferred; facility requirements may vary)
• Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing principles, crisis management, and therapeutic communication
 
Requirements / Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (required)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – preferred
• Active Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) OR
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) OR
• MANDT OR
• TEAM certification (required)
