Shift                            : 06:00pm-06:00am
 
Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Stepdown Unit provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals requiring close monitoring and advanced nursing interventions. This unit serves patients transitioning from ICU as well as those requiring higher acuity care than a Medical-Surgical unit.
 
About the Unit:
The Stepdown Unit specializes in caring for patients with:

• STEMI / NSTEMI
• Chest Pain (rule out)
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Non-Invasive Ventilation (BiPAP/CPAP)
• Post-Cardiothoracic Surgery patients (after ICU transfer)
• Patients receiving IV antiarrhythmic medications
• Peripheral vascular compromise
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry patients

 
Key Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and continuous cardiac monitoring
• Administer medications including IV drips and antiarrhythmics per protocol
• Monitor hemodynamic status and recognize early signs of deterioration
• Manage non-invasive ventilation (BiPAP/CPAP)
• Provide post-operative care for cardiothoracic patients transitioning from ICU
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary team members
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EMR
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies and patient safety standards

 
Requirements:

• Active RN license (state-specific or compact license as applicable)
• Minimum 6 months of Stepdown experience – Required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Experience with cardiac drips, telemetry monitoring, and post-cardiac care
• Ability to float to Med/Surg or ER to take CVCU/Med-Surg holds – Required
• Strong critical thinking and communication skills

 
Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in high-acuity cardiac settings
• Prior ICU experience (preferred but not required)
