We have Permanent role Histology Technician for our client at Peoria, IL. Please let me know if you or any of your friends would be interested in this position.
Position Details:
Histology Technician- Peoria, IL
Location : 530 NE Glen Oak Avenue, Peoria, IL, 61637
Shift Timing : PART TIME - Start time 7am. 20 hours/week - 3 days week one, 2 days week two. 7am-3:30pm. Rotating weekends and holidays
Project Duration : Part Time
Salary Range : $29.30-$41.36/hr
Sign on : Sign on Bonus: 1 year- $2,500, 2 year- $5,000, 3 year- $10,000
Job Summary
Position reports to the Section Technical Lead and Department Manager. Prepares tissues for microscopic examination by a Pathologist according to established protocols. In doing so, processes specimens by freezing and cutting tissue sections, selecting optimal tissue sections and floating them onto glass slides and staining or treating the tissue with reagents so as to reveal specific structural details under micro scopicanalysis. Position is responsible for preparing and maintaining solutions and reagents as needed, according to established protocols. Shows attention to detail, knowledge of the chemical rationale of the staining procedures performed, and the skills required to recognize and remedy technical difficulties encountered with the processing of tissue samples.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1) Associate degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in a science related field and qualified to complete with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnology program, required within one year of employment. Certification by the Board of Certification of American Society for Clinical Pathology is required within 1 year of employment. No experience required.
2) Certification by Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathologists is required within 1 year of employment.
3) Approximately one to three months on the job experience is necessary in order to gain knowledge of histochemical reagents, solutions and equipment maintenance, and ability to perform a wide variety of histology procedures.
4) Interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact effectively with physicians, technologists and other personnel when gathering and exchanging specimen-related information.
5) Analytical skills necessary to ascertain physician needs and determine appropriate specimen preparation method, to determine suitability of stains on specimens and the like.
1. Will they be performing routine histology, or just cutting and embedding only?
Cutting and embedding….maybe special stains if they are knowledgeable with our equipment.
2. Is it still required that they have a bachelor's degree or an associate’s degree?
Associates degree is required, preferred bachelors if possible.

- Associate is Degree in a Science related field?
- Completion of a NAACLS accredited program.
- ASCP Certified.
- Minimum of 1-year experience as a Histo Tech?
- Your candidate understand OSF is a Drug Free Campus and they must produce a negative drug screen for all panels
