Job Summary
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) provides immediate and effective nursing care to patients with urgent, critical, or life-threatening conditions. The RN prioritizes and delivers care in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, working collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to stabilize and treat patients of all ages.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Perform rapid and accurate assessment of patients presenting with emergent, urgent, and non-urgent conditions.
• Triage patients according to acuity level using established triage systems (e.g., ESI).
• Implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans to address patient needs.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and emergency treatments as prescribed.
• Assist with and perform procedures such as wound care, splinting, IV insertion, catheterization, and cardiac monitoring.
• Respond promptly to emergency situations, including trauma activations, cardiac arrests, and respiratory distress.
• Monitor and interpret vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and lab/imaging results.
• Collaborate closely with emergency physicians, respiratory therapists, and other team members to provide coordinated care.
• Document all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Provide emotional support and education to patients and families during crises.
• Maintain readiness for emergency response and adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
• Participate in debriefings, quality improvement projects, and continuing education.

 
Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
• Licensure: Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State/Country].
• Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required or must obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) – Preferred
• Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience in emergency, critical care, or acute care nursing preferred.
