We have Contract role Senior Medical Abstractionist for our Philadelphia, PA. Please let me know if you or any of your friends would be interested in this position.
 
Position Details:
Senior Medical Abstractionist- Philadelphia, PA
Location                         : Wanamaker Building, 1300 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107
Project Duration        : 13 weeks contract to perm potentially
Shift                                : M-F - 8:30AM-5PM – 40 hour weekly
 
NOTE: 1ST 90 DAYS IN OFFICE EVERY DAY SHOULD A CONTRACTOR PERFORM AT APPROPRIATE LEVEL, MOVE TO A HYBRID SCHEDULE 4 DAYS IN OFFICE/ MONTH
 
Job Summary:
This role will be responsible for reviewing medical record documentation including procedure reports and assigning appropriate CPT and ICD-9 codes. Monitors changes in coding procedures and assisting in training staff. Reviews complex (problematic coding that needs research) medical records and communicating findings with coders and management. May also collaborate on internal QA and coding reviews when required.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Systematically review and analyze patient medical records to determine all appropriate diagnosis and procedures performed, and to produce coded abstract for physician billing.
  • Submission of coded services for billing and or data entry of the coded services for claim submission in accordance with departmental productivity and accuracy standards.
  • Review of inpatient data and reconciliation of billable services including, review of system processing and appropriate communication and escalation to management any errors and omissions.
  • Review and resolution of coding related edits and errors that impact claim submission.
 
Skills:
  • Ability to read and analyze medical records.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Professional telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to interact with physicians and patients’ parents or guardians in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Ability to use PC skillfully. Knowledge of EPIC preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
 
Required Education and Experience:
  • Degree in Health information management or equivalent experience
  • 5 years Coding Experience required
  • 3 years clinical environment required
  • Strong computer, administrative, and organizational skills (written and oral) required
  • E/M and Critical Care coding experience is preferred
 
Required Licenses/certificates:
  • C.P.C. Certification (Certified Professional Coder) REQUIRED. NO APPRENTICE
