Retail Pharmacist- Washington, IA
Location                            : Washington, IA 52353
Project Duration           : 8 Weeks Contract
Shift                                    : Days
 
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing accurate, safe, efficient and cost-effective drug distribution, and pharmaceutical care services, either directly or indirectly, to the patients of the pharmacy through the efforts of supportive staff. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability to be successful.
 
Duties/Responsibilities (Include But Are Not Limited to the Following)
  • Provide accurate, efficient and appropriate pharmaceutical distribution services to patients by properly interpreting physicians’ drug orders and dispensing the appropriate medications.
  • Review patient medical and pharmaceutical records and monitors for efficient drug therapy, drug interaction, adverse drug reactions, contraindication, allergies, and sensitivities.
  • Develop and demonstrate commitment to the self-directed development of clinical pharmacy practice skills under guidelines of the departmental staff development programs through identification of personal education goals and objectives.
  • Administer immunizations.
  • Communicate directly with both physicians and nurses regarding questions concerning patient drug therapy.
  • Prepare, compound, dispense, and sell prescriptions and pharmacy-related products.
  • Provide patient/clients with counseling and education.
  • Monitor storage, distribution, and use of pharmaceuticals.
  • Document and report all medication errors to the Pharmacist in Charge.
  • Monitor all patient drug therapy for appropriateness and cost effectiveness and communicates all possible recommendations to patient’s physician(s).
  • Oversee prescription processing activities to ensure that quality and standard of practice is maintained.
  • Maintain records of controlled substances.
  • Assist with the direction and monitoring of Pharmacy personnel and performance as directed.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Recommend process improvements for increased efficiencies.
  • Display and promote company values.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with prevalent professional demeanor.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and excellent customer service.
  • Analytical skills to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Maintain professional technical knowledge.
 
Education And /Or Experience
  • Graduate from an accredited school of pharmacy with active pharmacist license in the state of Iowa.
  • Obtain and maintain current certification required by the department to ensure abilities to deliver specialized services, such as Basic Cardiac Life Support, Immunization certification.
  • Maintain current knowledge of State and Federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances and investigational agents; conducts personal practice in accordance with those requirements.
