Job Description:

• A Med/Surg Registered Nurse provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for adult patients with a wide range of medical conditions or recovering from surgery.
• This role involves assessments, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in a fast-paced acute care environment. The nurse collaborates with physicians, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care, patient safety, and optimal outcomes.

 
Key Responsibilities / Duties

• Patient Assessment & Monitoring
• Perform initial and ongoing assessments (vitals, pain, lab values, patient history) to monitor patient health status. Nurse.com+2AAMCN+2
• Recognize and respond to changes in a patient’s condition; escalate when necessary. Idaho Falls Community Hospital
• Care Planning & Implementation
• Develop and implement individualized care plans based on assessment and physician orders. AAMCN+1
• Administer medications (oral, IV), IV fluids, and other treatments as prescribed. Nurse.com
• Provide wound care, dressing changes, and post-operative care. CareRev+1
• Support patient mobility, hygiene, and daily living activities. Sigma Nursing+1
• Patient Education & Discharge Planning
• Educate patients and their families on disease conditions, treatment, medication, and discharge instructions.
• Coordinate and plan for patient discharge, including follow-up care and self-management. Sigma Nursing
• Collaboration & Teamwork
• Work with multidisciplinary teams (physicians, allied health, pharmacy, physiotherapy, dietitians) to coordinate care
• Communicate effectively with team members about patient status and plan of care.
• Documentation & Record Keeping
• Accurately document patient assessments, care plans, interventions, and outcomes in medical records. Nurse.com
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
• Safety & Infection Control
• Follow and implement infection control procedures. Sigma Nursing
• Ensure safe working environment, including safe handling of equipment and patient positioning. Van Buren County Hospital
• Emergency Response
• Recognize early signs of patient deterioration and respond appropriately (including in emergencies) Houston Methodist Careers
• Provide basic life support (BLS), and if required, advanced cardiac life support according to hospital policy.
• Professional Development & Compliance
• Maintain nursing competencies via continuous education, in-services, and training.
• Maintain appropriate licensure and certifications (e.g., RN license, BLS, ACLS).
• Participate in quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives.

 
Required / Preferred Qualifications

• Education: Diploma, Associate, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.

 
License / Certification:

• Registered Nurse (RN) license in the relevant state/country. Idaho Falls Community Hospital
• Basic Life Support (BLS) mandatory. Idaho Falls Community Hospital
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred / required in many Med/Surg roles.

Certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing (CMSRN) is a plus.
