Echo Technologist- Lawton, OK
Location                            : Lawton, OK 73505
Project Duration           : 14 Weeks  
Shift                                    : 7p-7a Fri-Sun
 
Job Summary
  • Operating imaging equipment, and reviewing images to be sure they are of good quality and helpful for diagnosis.
  • Identifying normal and abnormal imaging results, communicating a summary of the results to physicians or other health professionals, and alerting physicians to urgent problems.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct transthoracic (TTE), transesophageal (TEE), stress (exercise or pharmacologic) echocardiograms.
  • Use Doppler techniques (e.g., pulse-wave, continuous-wave, color-flow) to assess blood flow in cardiac structures.
  • Acquire 2D, M-mode, and possibly 3D cardiac images, depending on facility and equipment.
  • Patient Preparation & Care
  • Explain procedures to patients, answer their questions, and ensure they are comfortable.
  • Position patients, attach ECG leads (if needed) for monitoring, and ensure patient safety during the exam.
  • Monitor vital signs / patient response during stress echo or prolonged procedures.
  • Image Analysis & Reporting
  • Measure, quantify, and document cardiac structures (e.g., chamber dimensions, wall thickness, valve function).
  • Provide preliminary findings / impressions, which are then reviewed by a cardiologist.
  • Record and store echocardiogram images and related data in the patient’s medical record.
  • Equipment Management
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound / echocardiography equipment, including regular calibration, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure image accuracy and machine safety.
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate diagnostic plans.
  • Assist physicians during complex studies / procedures.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings or case discussions as needed.
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, especially for transesophageal or invasive echo.
  • Ensure compliance with echocardiography lab standards (e.g., accreditation, quality assurance).
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and document all procedures as per hospital policy.
  • Professional Development
  • Stay updated on new echo technologies, techniques, and best practices.
  • Attend relevant training, conferences, or continuing education courses.
  • Additional / Optional Duties
  • Participate in research studies (if hospital has clinical research) — e.g., 3D echo reconstruction, strain imaging.
  • Act as a trainer or mentor for junior echo technologists, students, or trainees.
  • Assist in department administrative tasks like scheduling, inventory, or accreditation documentation.
 
Qualifications / Skills Required
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Cardiovascular Technology, or a related allied health field.
  • Completion of an accredited echocardiography / sonography training program is preferred.

  • BLS (AHA)
