Job Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical and invasive procedures. The OR RN functions primarily as a circulating nurse and collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical technologists to ensure patient safety, sterile technique, and optimal surgical outcomes.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Prepare operating rooms by ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and functioning.
• Conduct preoperative patient assessments, verify surgical consents, allergies, and procedure details.
• Maintain and monitor aseptic and sterile technique throughout procedures.
• Serve as the circulating nurse, managing patient care and safety during surgery.
• Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and transport.
• Coordinate and communicate with surgeons, anesthesia, and surgical team members.
• Perform and document surgical counts (sponges, instruments, needles) with the scrub tech.
• Monitor patient condition and respond to intraoperative emergencies as needed.
• Document all perioperative care accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Advocate for patient safety, dignity, and comfort at all times.
• Follow infection control, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations, staff education, and quality improvement initiatives.

 
Qualifications

• • BSN preferred; ADN accepted.
• • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska.
• • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • CNOR certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• • OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED- Must have Ortho Experience and Neuro OR Experience (Level 1 or 2 experience).
